Appleton, Wis. – For the 24th year, Plumbers & Steamfitters UA Local 400 is graciously assisting low income senior citizen homeowners with staying safe in their own home this winter through free furnace checks and more.
“Project Heat’s On” is an application-based free service that will take place on Saturday, September 24. Request an application by calling the Volunteer Center of East Central Wisconsin at 920-832-9360.
Plumbers & Steamfitters UA Local 400 inspect the heating systems of low-income senior citizens and handicapped homeowners of Brown, Fond du Lac, Outagamie and Winnebago Counties. During the check, they provide a complete heating system inspection and install new batteries in existing smoke detectors. If the homeowner does not have a carbon monoxide and/or smoke detector(s), they furnish and install these items at no cost to the homeowner or county service programs. Each home will contain a minimum of two (2) smoke detectors and one (1) carbon monoxide detector approved by the area fire department upon completion. They also supply each home with a residential fire extinguisher.
This is accomplished by many organizations including the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 400, Mechanical Contractors Association of North Central WI and in conjunction with the area senior service programs, respectively.
To be eligible, seniors must be either low-income and/or disabled homeowners under the guidelines set by the Volunteer Center of East Central WI and The Aging & Disability Resource Center of Brown County. All applicants are screened prior to service.
